Police arrested a woman they found sleeping behind the wheel of her idling car on 5131 North Freeway in North Houston at about 2:40 a.m.
According to the Houston Police Department, before falling asleep in her car, the woman had gone into a tattoo parlor in the north Houston.
Kese Smith, a spokesperson for the department, said that according to a witness, the woman had come to the tattoo parlor to get a piercing but was refused because she appeared to be drunk. The witness said that when the woman left they saw her one-year-old child in the car.
Smith said police arrived on the scene to answer a call about a woman sleeping in her car.
According to Smith, police found beer bottles and what they believe to be Xanax in the car.
The woman was is expected to be charged with driving while intoxicated, endangering a child and possession of a controlled substance, according to police.
The woman, who Smith says is pregnant, was evaluated on the scene by Houston Fire Department medical personnel before being taken to Ben Taub General Hospital.
Child Protective Services were called to the scene for the one-year-old.
